LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan Democratic Party did not deliver the state’s 15 electoral votes for Vice President Kamala Harris, so the state party chair is not running for reelection.
Michigan Democratic Party Chairwoman Lavora Barnes announced she would not run for reelection after serving in the position since 2019. She penned a letter on the group’s website.

“We ran in hard races across the state, and we ran those races well, which is why I know that we will continue to show up for working Michiganders everywhere,” Barnes wrote. “We will continue to grow our tent as we righteously fight for every single person in our great state.”
Barnes is the first Black woman to serve as state party chair for the Democratic Party.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer also served as the co-chair of the Harris reelection committee.
