MT. PLEASANT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Isabella County Democratic Party promoted a free drag queen show Nov. 1 as part of a get-out-the-vote event.
The local Democratic Party hosted a “Drag Me To The Polls!” event in Mount Pleasant at the Broadway Theatre.
The promoters stated they wanted to inform people how to understand election issues such as same-day registration, absentee ballot deadlines, as well as “learn more about your candidates.”

Tiffany Tite Chaunte, one of the event’s performers, stated on Facebook that more than 200 people attended the Mount Pleasant event. It was described as a “non-partisan.” Chaunte posted on her Facebook account there was also a “voter empowerment” drag queen show Nov. 2 in Huron County’s Bad Axe.
The Isabella County Democratic Party had asked for donations to help cover the cost of putting on the Nov. 1 event.
“The Drag Me to the Polls event was one of several get-out-the-vote events we’ve held in our community,” said Cathy Willermet, chair of the Isabella County Democratic Party, in an email to Michigan News Source. “We’ve held picnics in the park, coffee hours, candidate events, debate watch parties, sign parties, painting parties, rallies, and other events. Every event is open to all, but people vary in what appeals to them.”
Willermet continued: “Our goal is to reach as wide a population as possible. We hosted this event as a lighthearted event for folks, a different event from others we’ve hosted in the past.”
