GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) –A 26-year-old illegal alien who shot and killed his girlfriend and left her body along a Grand Rapids freeway in March will spend decades in prison.

A judge sentenced Brandon Ortiz-Vite to 37 to 100 years in prison. He received an additional two years for a felony firearm charge. In addition, Ortiz-Vite will serve a concurrent sentence of 20 to 80 years for carjacking and three to five years for carrying a concealed weapon.

Ortiz-Vite pleaded guilty in September to the four counts related to the March 22 murder of 25-year-old Ruby Garcia. The judge described Garcia’s killing as “cold-blooded” and “intentional.”

Immigration officials have said that Ortiz-Vite is a native of Mexico. He was deported in September 2020 following an impaired driving arrest but it’s not clear when he returned to the U.S.
