DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The city of Detroit spent less than half of its $826.7 million in received in a federal COVID-relief American Rescue Plan Act.
The city stated that it has spent 44% of that federal money, according to a city report given the city council at its Nov. 12 meeting.

The city spent $29.3 million of ARPA money in fiscal year 2022, $97.4 million in FY 2023 and $191.9 million in FY 2024.
The city spent $44.7 million of that ARPA funding on improving city services and infrastructure, the highest categorical expense. The next highest expense was the $16 million the city has spent on blight removal. Blight removal has been a priority under Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan who has used the federal money for his “Blight to Beauty” campaign.
President Joe Biden announced the American Rescue Plan in January 2021 which authorized spending of $1.9 trillion in programs and tax credits.
