DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Ford Motor Company is halting production of its electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck at a Dearborn factory.

The announcement comes three years after President Joe Biden and Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D) visited the plant to celebrate the truck’s rollout. Slotkin is running for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat against GOP former Congressman Mike Rogers. The news of the production halt could impact the lead up to the Nov. 5 election day since Rogers has targeted Slotkin over her support of EV mandates while she has tried to create some distance from those policies.

In addition, the production pause marks a setback for he Biden-Harris administration and the Democratic party’s climate change agenda which focuses on phasing out gas-powered cars and flooding the market with EVs. Ford’s production halt comes two months after Ford canceled plans to develop an all-electric three-row SUV due to slowing consumer demand and just days after Ford projected its EV business would lose $5 billion in 2024.
