DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – General Motors laid off approximately 1,000 employees on Friday with most of the affected employees based at the automaker’s Global Technical Center in Warren.
Company officials said the layoffs are part of an effort to reduce costs amid slowing sales in the United States and reconsider its electric vehicle market.

A small number of hourly workers also received pink slips.
General Motors wants to cut $2 billion in fixed costs this year.
