LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin has secured Michigan’s Senate seat, edging out former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers in a close contest. Slotkin’s win keeps the swing-state seat in Democratic hands.

A three-term House member and former CIA analyst, Slotkin succeeds retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who held the seat for over 20 years and endorsed Slotkin as her successor.

At a press conference earlier in the day, Slotkin said, “I’m so grateful that Michiganders have placed their trust in me and to follow in the enormous footsteps of Senator Debbie Stabenow to represent the state that I love.”

She also thanked voters on her X account after securing the victory:

Rogers concedes race.

On Wednesday afternoon, Rogers extended his congratulations to Slotkin, wishing her well and expressing gratitude to his family and supporters.

“Michigan will always be home, and serving our state has been the honor of my life,” Rogers stated. “While it won’t be in the U.S. Senate right now, I will continue to serve Michigan now and into the future.”

With all counties in the state reporting, Slotkin won by a narrow margin – just over 17,000 votes – gathering 48.62% of the vote to Rogers’ 48.3%, according to the Michigan Secretary of State’s latest unofficial results.
