DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is not seeking a fourth term as mayor.

The Wednesday announcement sets up an open mayoral race for 2025 and adds to speculation that he may run for governor in 2026, according to some political sources.

“Being your mayor has been an honor of a lifetime,” Duggan said in a press conference.

The 66-year-old Duggan has served as mayor of the city since 2014 and worked in a variety of roles in the city and county dating back to the 1980s. His bio on the city’s website describes his law career, his stint as Wayne County Prosecutor, and CEO of the Detroit Medical Center.
