LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — Camping season doesn’t have to end when the snow starts falling. Across Michigan, 34 state park campgrounds remain open year-round, presenting opportunities to enjoy the state’s beauty in every season.
While traditional tent camping might be daunting during Michigan’s winter months, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers a range of lodging options to suit the season. From classic campsites to weather-resistant accommodations like cabins, yurts, and tiny houses, these year-round campgrounds aim to make outdoor adventures accessible in any weather.

For those new to the camping lifestyle, RV rentals are another option available to campers, as well.
As Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources pushes forward with an ambitious $273 million project backlog, campers can expect even better amenities in the years ahead, according to MLive. This initiative includes upgrades to popular campgrounds, modernized facilities, and improved accessibility, all slated for completion by 2026.
Among the 34 campgrounds open year-round are some of Michigan’s most beloved parks, like Tahquamenon Falls State Park, known for its waterfalls, and Muskegon State Park, which grants access to trails for hiking, skiing, and fat-tire biking. Others, like Holland State Park and Waterloo Recreation Area, provide family-friendly options for campers looking to combine nature with activities like sledding or ice fishing.
