DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – A woman who pleaded guilty to kidnapping newborn twins from a Livonia hotel in Aug. 2023 will spend seven to 20 years in prison.

Shantell Jones admitted to kidnapping the twin boys when they were 14 days old. Jones befriended Jazlyn Morgan, the twins’ mother, during her pregnancy. During the preliminary examination, Morgan testified that Jones stopped by the Livonia hotel where Morgan was staying with the newborns to drop off a gift card for her. When she left to get a pop from the vending machine, Jones took the babies. Three others, Curtis Slay, Davion Sherman Chandler, and a 16-year-old girl, took the babies’ car seats and Morgan’s phone from the hotel room.

The babies were returned safely 12 hours later.

Slay and Sherman Chandler were sentenced to three to 15 years in prison in May for unlawful imprisonment. The 16-year-old juvenile’s case is pending.

During her victim impact at Jones’ hearing, Morgan said having her sons taken is “every mother’s worst nightmare.”
