NEW YORK (Michigan News Source) – In a one-two punch, Former President Donald Trump blasted both Vice President Kamala Harris and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer during a charity dinner in New York on Thursday evening.

The annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, which raises funds for Catholic charities, is a mix between black tie and light humor. The dinner is a presidential tradition dating back 60 years, but Harris only showed up via video. It’s a moment Trump seized.

“All polls are indicating I’m leading big with the Catholic vote, as I should be, but I don’t think Kamala has given up yet. She hasn’t. Instead of attending tonight, she’s in Michigan receiving Communion from Gretchen Whitmer,” Trump said.

Trump referred to the viral social media video from last week that showed Gov. Whitmer feeding a Dorito chip to internet influencer Liz Plank. Some people pushed back on its not-so subtle sexuality, while others denounced it for its blasphemous tone.

After Catholic leaders blasted Whitmer last week, she offered an apology over the interpretation of the video, not the actions themselves.

Not to be outdone, Harris appeared in a video at the dinner with actress Molly Shannon. She revived her “Mary Katherine Gallagher” Catholic student character from Saturday Night Live.

In a press release following the event, Trump said “Kamala isn’t funny, despises Catholics, and was too afraid of being roasted” to attend the dinner.

Meanwhile, both Harris and Trump are campaigning in Michigan on Friday.
