LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer stirred up social media on Thursday, October 10th with a peculiar video that went viral. In the clip, posted by left-wing podcaster Liz Plank, Whitmer can be seen feeding Plank a Dorito in a manner that some have likened to a Eucharist ceremony – a sacred ritual in Christianity.
In our editorial about the video, we commented that it was likely a promotional video for Plank’s interview with the governor that dropped the same day – but it was unknown if Whitmer was a willing participant in the video or if it was AI-generated content by Plank.

The governor’s office did not comment on the video as it went viral, but they have since given a comment to the Detroit News about the video – and pointed to the fact that it was about the CHIPS Act, a piece of legislation passed by the U.S. Congress in 2022 to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing, research, and development.
Helen Hare, a spokeswoman for Whitmer, told the Detroit News that Republicans’ criticisms of the video are nothing more than a diversion tactic to steer attention away from Democratic efforts to boost local economies.
In her statement, Hare said, “The governor’s social media is well known for infusing her communications with pop culture. This popular trend has been used by countless people, including Billie Eilish, Kylie Jenner, and Stephen Colbert, and the fact that people are paying attention to a video promoting President Biden’s CHIPS Act proves it’s working.”
CatholicVote, non-profit advocacy organization that focuses on promoting Catholic values in the public sphere, however, had another take on the video saying, “How else can this be interpreted other than mockery of Catholics and the sacrament of Holy Communion, not to mention the distasteful pornographic innuendo? Gretchen Whitmer is only the latest example of the gross anti-Catholic bigotry festering inside the Democratic Party.”
