HOUGHTON COUNTY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – An Upper Peninsula company has secured a taxpayer-funded grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).
Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the MEDC announced a $4.750 million investment in Northern Hardwoods in Houghton County, which they say will help protect 85 jobs in the area.

Northern Hardwoods plans to install a new biomass boiler and a back-pressure steam turbine at their Atlantic Mine. The upgrades will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and be more energy efficient.
