LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson spent time on MSNBC’s “Face the Nation” over the weekend discussing early voting turnout and when she estimates all the votes will be counted.

Benson said her “best guess” as to when all the votes will be tabulated is by “the end of the day on Wednesday,” one day after the election. However, she appeared to hint at a possible delay by saying, “We will always prioritize accuracy and security over efficiency.”

In addition, Benson also discussed the early in-person voting that started in Detroit over the weekend. According to the interviewer, 54% of those who have already cast their vote in Michigan are “registered Democrats” while 36% are Republicans. It’s worth noting that Michigan does not require voters to register with a political party.

“The truth and the law and the facts are on the side of voters and on the side of Democracy,” Benson said.

In the meantime, Benson still has not cleaned up the voter rolls and is facing several lawsuits in court. Her office said it would remove 360,000 next year but would remain on the voter roll for the Nov. 5 election.
