WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – A U.S. Department of Justice audit report shows the FBI is fumbling child sexual abuse cases, according to a government watchdog group.

The report found the FBI is failing to report all suspected child sexual abuse cases to appropriate law enforcement agencies. The review found no evidence the FBI complied with mandatory reporting requirements in about half of the cases examined by the inspector general.

For Michigan, the report hits close to home. The inquiry found failures even after improvements prompted by its handling of the case against former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar.

Nassar is serving decades in prison for sexually abusing girls and women under the guise of treatment.
