GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – As fall kicks into full gear, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is starting to remove swim buoys from many state park beaches. While crews work, they want to remind Michiganders that safety should always be a priority.

Officials said once buoys are removed, the area is no longer considered a swim area. While the beach remains open to the public, swimming is not recommended.

On-shore rescue equipment, the Great Lakes flag system, and safety signage will remain along those sections of shoreline through at least Oct. 1.

DNR officials said visitors should exercise caution when entering the water.
