AUGUSTA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Labor Day weekend marked a significant milestone for Michigan campsites as data indicates the state is on track to break the record previously set in 2021 for occupied campsites.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reports almost 95% of sites statewide were occupied for the holiday weekend. Michigan boasts 103 state parks.

Fort Custer in Augusta is home to more than 200 of those campsites. The spaces were full for Labor Day weekend while visitors enjoyed biking, kayaking, and swimming.
About 6,000 of Michigan’s campsites are closed for construction this summer, which has triggered an increase in demand.
