Infielder Canha become a San Francisco Giant as he was swapped for right handed pitcher Eric Silva. He was heating up with 74 hits, seven home runs, 38 RBI and 42 runs scored.
Flaherty, who had become a hot name in the past month and a half, was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers for catcher Thayron Liranzo and short stop Trey Sweeney. He is 7-5 with a 2.95 ERA as a starter. In 106.2 innings pitched, he has 133 strikeouts and a 0.96 WHIP. Liranzo and Sweeney were both top prospects in the Dodgers organization as the no. 8 and no. 22 players. Liranzo now becomes Detroit’s no. 5 prospect and Sweeney was the New York Yankees’ first-round draft pick in 2021.
Tigers President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris said this on Flaherty, “Jack was a very popular name on my phone all week. We got a lot of calls about Jack. Our goal was to find young talent, especially position-playing talent, that could help us at premium positions moving forward.”
And that is what the Tigers did at the MLB trading deadline, move their organization forward. Harris is putting the Tigers in a position to win in the future gaining five new players for the organization.
