ST. IGNACE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Plane wreckage and human remains from a crash 17 years ago off Mackinac Island have been discovered.

In August 2007, the small plane took off from Mackinac Island and crashed into Lake Huron while enroute to Bad Axe. The pilot, 52-year-old Karen Dodds from Washington D.C., flew with one passenger, 56-year-old H. Brooke Stauffer.

On October 8, 2007, Dodds’ remains were found in the Straits of Mackinac. The discovery of the wreckage this month lead to finding the remains of Stauffer. He lived in Washington, D.C. as well.

Last October,  Great Lakes Search & Recovery resumed the search efforts at the request of family members, according to the Michigan State Police.
