WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – The Republican National Committee (RNC) wants citizenship verification and other safeguards in the November election and is demanding accountability from Democrat election officials in eight states, including Michigan.

What are Michigan’s newly passes election rules?

That includes addressing new election rules in Michigan which restrict recount cases to races where recounting would swing the election. Prior to the new rules, a candidate could ask for a recount if he or she suspected fraud or that counting mistakes had been made.

In addition, the new rules in Michigan are set to take effect after the election, but Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson appears to be pushing for them to be implemented for the Nov. 5, 2024 election.

The RNC’s five-page letter to Benson.

RNC Election Integrity Counsel Luke Bunting wrote in a five-page letter, in part, that Benson stop her attempt to speed up implementation of those rules. “I am writing to request that you cease any attempt to adopt the proposed administrative ruleset (2024-18 ST; JCAR #24-32) before the upcoming general election on November 5, 2024, or at any other time prior to the effective date of Senate Bill 603, the statutory framework the proposed ruleset is designed to implement.”

Furthermore, Buntin continued by stating that the new rules weren’t designated to take effect immediately. “By pushing to implement SB 603 via the rulemaking process before SB 603 becomes effective, the Bureau [of Elections] seeks to adopt rules that directly conflict with current Michigan law,” the letter read. “Simply put, the Bureau cannot do through the back door (rulemaking process) what the Legislature declined to accomplish through the front door (immediate effect).”

RNC Chairman Michael Whatley stated, “This is just the latest step in our fight to compel officials to follow the law: only Americans should decide American elections, and Democrats will be held accountable.”

It’s not the first time Benson has been in hot water over election integrity issues. She still has yet to take tens of thousands of dead voters off Michigan’s rolls.
