ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The city of Ann Arbor is set to receive approximately $94,000 from a legal settlement with Kroger.

Earlier this month, the City Council voted to approve the city’s participation in a national prescription opioid litigation settlement involving the supermarket pharmacy chain. Ann Arbor has previously joined similar settlements with CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and other companies and has already started receiving payments from those, according to Senior Assistant City Attorney Michelle Landis.

Of the $1.4 billion settlement, about $1.2 billion will be allocated to states and local governments over 11 years to address and mitigate the impacts of the opioid crisis.

Landis says the settlement also governs opioid dispensing practices and requires Kroger to implement safeguards to prevent diversion of prescription opioids.
