FLINT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – McLaren Health Care announced Wednesday night that a cyberattack is to blame for disruptions the previous day to computer and phone systems.

McLaren is currently working with cybersecurity experts to learn more about the nature of the attack and to stop the damage from the security breach.

Officials said in a statement they have not determined if the cyberattack compromised patient or employee data.

“We are grateful for the response from our frontline caregivers and staff who have come together to provide care under these circumstances,” says a statement released by McLaren.

McLaren says that its hospitals and clinics have shut down the majority of their computer systems; only a few systems are being used while they work to bring all systems back online.

In addition, McLaren officials said despite the cyberattack they are still able to care for patients. “Our emergency departments continue to be operational, most surgeries and procedures continue to be performed, and our physician offices continue to see as many patients as possible. During this time of limited access to our systems, and out of an abundance of caution, some non-emergent appointments, tests, and treatments are being rescheduled.”

The hospital system also thanked its staff for their professional response during this time, and offered apologies to patients and the community.
