DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The United Auto Workers of America (UAW), which has endorsed the Democratic ticket in the 2024 presidential election, has filed labor charges against former President Donald Trump and X executive Elon Musk.
The union filed federal labor charges against Trump and Musk on Tuesday morning. It came hours after a chat on X Monday night in which the UAW said both Trump and Musk “advocated for the illegal firing of union workers,” according to a UAW press release.

The UAW did not mince words, and called Trump “a scab” on X. “Donald Trump will always side against workers standing up for themselves, and he will always side with billionaires like Elon Musk, who is contributing $45 million a month to a Super PAC to get him elected,” the UAW wrote. “Both Trump and Musk want working-class people to sit down and shut up, and they laugh about it openly. It’s disgusting, illegal, and totally predictable from these two clowns.”

But there’s an old saying about rocks and glass houses. UAW President Shawn Fain, who took over that role in 2023, is under investigation by an independent federal monitor. The investigation involves retaliation against other union leaders and allegedly shoring up deals that would benefit his family. A corruption scandal has embroiled the UAW since 2021 which resulted in federal convictions and prison time for several former leaders.
Fain lead a union strike last fall. Trump and Musk engaged in a more than hour interview on X on Monday night.
