MELVINDALE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The search for the suspect in the shooting and killing of Melvindale police officer Mohamed Said came to an end on Monday night.
A deputy Wayne County executive said officers captured the suspect, 44-year-old Michael Lopez, in southwest Detroit.

A video on the Facebook page “Macomb County News and Scanner” shows police arresting Lopez.
Said was fatally shot on Sunday near a car wash. Officials reported that Said responded to a gas station for a group of people loitering; there was a struggle and then Said was shot and “killed instantly.”
Melvindale Mayor Nicole Shkira described Said as a dedicated police officer and hero.
Lopez has a criminal record which is why officials offered a $37,500 reward when he was on the run. Anyone with information regarding this shooting can contact the Melvindale Police Department at 313-429-1070.
