FLINT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Mott Community College Board of Trustees voted on Monday night to withdraw its letter of support from the Mundy Township megasite project citing lack of transparency.

“This is a great move from Mott,” Jennifer Arrand Stainton told Michigan News Source. “It shows that the community is starting to realize the potential impact.”

The megasite in Genesee County near Bishop International Airport has continued to receive pushback from many in the community as no clear plan is in the works for the potential property, nor are there specifics about what would be built on the 1,000 acre site.

On the other side of the project is the Flint and Genesee Economic Alliance. According to its website, the megasite project is a “transformational investment that will create thousands of jobs and pump millions of dollars of new revenue into our community, region, and the entire state.”

Megasite projects, like the one proposed in Mundy Township, have been pet projects of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Other projects in Big Rapids (Gotion), Marshall (CATL), and Clinton County have received hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer money despite sizeable pushback from those communities over the megasites.
