DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – A piece of the puzzle for the 2024-25 season was answered for the Detroit Red Wings as Patrick Kane has signed a one-year deal worth $4 million. The highly sought after free agent decided to stay in Detroit because that is where he wanted to be.
“For me, my heart was set on coming to Detroit and being back in Detroit. I thought it was a good fit last year. I love this team. We were really comfortable living hear. I love the fans. I thought the fans really embraced me, too,” said Kane.

Coming off a hip resurfacing surgery last year, Kane played in 50 games scoring 20 goals, had 27 assists, and finished with 47 points. He had hip resurfacing surgery on June 1, 2023 missing the start of the season. He signed with Detroit on November 28 for the remainder of the season.
Kane adds about coming back for the 2024-25 season, “It’s not only about me, right. I feel like it was a good fit for me, but I also feel like it was a good fit from the team and I feel like I fit in well with the lineup and with the players and the guys. So I was looking forward to just building on what we went through last year.”
With a full-strength body, Kane is 35-years old and ready for another run to a championship. He says, “I’m really happy with how I’m feeling with my body and just the hip becoming a part of my body now, and just kind of feeling like it’s all one. My goal is to take it to another level next year, too.”
The help from Kane last season propelled Detroit to just one-point from the NHL playoffs. His three Stanley Cup championships from Chicago and veteran leadership will continue into this season with the Red Wings as they continue to move their program forward. Kane says, “We all want to build on last year, so that was the message I got as well. And I think there’s definitely expectations going into this season, so that’s a good thing.”
As the off-season continues to ramp with new players signing, Detroit is putting together a team that could make a run at the NHL playoffs.
