DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit is increasing water patrols for the Fourth of July holiday.

The agency is taking part in Operation Dry Water, a national effort to reduce alcohol and drug-related accidents and fatalities on the water.

This period of heightened awareness and enforcement will take place from July 4 to July 6, 2024. During this time, boaters will see an increase in officers patrolling the water and at recreational boating checkpoints.

This is the 15th year for the program. Sheriff Michael Bouchard says no matter what wheel you’re behind, don’t drink and drive.
