DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Monty Williams has only been with Detroit for one season, but that is all it may take in the Motor City. With another NBA First Round draft pick after going a league worse 14-68, rumors are going around that Detroit maybe letting Williams go.

Williams is owed $60 million dollars if the transaction does take place. Detroit is reportedly in talks with Trajan Langdon who is the New Orleans Pelicans general manager. He would become the Pistons’ team president according to reports from The Athletic.

The hopes of Williams bringing leadership to an unstable team did not take place this past season. Winning just 14 games with young players, the turnaround to get better was suppose to come quicker than this. The likes of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, Ausar Thompson and Isaiah Stewart were predicted to come together for a better season and show improvement from the 2023. That didn’t happen and now Williams is on the hot seat.

Williams has an eight-year deal with $100 million dollars after being let go by Phoenix. He had a decent career for the Suns going to the Finals in 2021. The thought of bringing success to the Pistons young players didn’t convert as the team had a 28-game losing streak and some of his coaching decisions were questioned.
