DEWITT, Mich. (Michigan News Source – Jordyn Shipps, former DeWitt High School swimmer who graduated in 2021, has made the cut for the U.S. Olympic trials. She will swim on the first day competing in the women’s 100-meter butterfly representing Oakland University.

She qualified in August with a 59.9 time competing in California just making the cut. She will now compete in Indianapolis, Ind., beginning on June 15.

“I always knew I could do it but even having the goal didn’t prepare for that moment,” said Shipps. “When I called my parents (from California), that’s the moment I won’t forget,” as she said on WILX TV 10.

The lone women’s swimmer from Oakland University broke two program records this past year in the 100-meter butterfly at 53.04 and has the top time in the 200-meter butterfly at 1:58.58. She earned 19 wins in 2023-24 which is the most for any Oakland women’s swimmer. At the Horizon League Championships, she earned five victories in the 800 freestyle relay, 200 individual medley, 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, and 400 freestyle relay.
