MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer spent her time this week on Mackinac Island announcing additional layers of bureaucracy and outlining more ways to use taxpayer money for her pet projects.
Much of the Mackinac Policy Conference focused on key Democratic talking points like housing and energy goals, along with entrepreneurship and innovation. During her keynote speech on Thursday, Gov. Whitmer announced that Ben Marchionna would serve as Michigan’s first Chief Innovation Ecosystem Officer. The position will be housed within the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

“He will help build a community of innovation in Michigan where every founder and dreamer knows they have a voice in state government,” Whitmer said in her speech.
The brief introduction of Marchionna, who has a background in robotics and aviation, failed to mention the already bloated MEDC and its drive to give taxpayer incentives to communities who are reluctant about its projects. MEDC has already traveled overseas to Europe and Asia with Whitmer to bring foreign businesses back to the state. In addition, MEDC is the driving force behind megasite projects in Big Rapids, Marshall, Flint, and Eagle Township.
