GRANT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The remains of 17-year-old Army Private First Class Thomas Smith of Grant have been identified by scientists nearly 74-years after he was killed in the Korean War.
Smith was reported missing in action on August 2, 1950 and he was declared dead on December 31, 1953.

Remains were recovered in late 1950 but were unidentifiable with the technology at the time and were buried in 1956 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency disinterred the remains in 2019 to try to identify them again. Smith will be buried in Grant.
