LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — A 52-year-old Flint woman is facing legal repercussions for allegedly posing as a nurse without a license at three Oakland County nursing facilities. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has revealed this shocking case of deception, charging Cassandra Alvera Gilleylen, also known as Cassandra Alvera Bowens, with 30 counts of unauthorized practice of a health profession and three counts of identity theft after months of working without proper credentials.

Gilleylen is accused of working as a registered nurse from September 24, 2023 to March 5, 2024 at Mission Point of Clarkston, Mission Point of Holly, and Wellbridge of Clarkston. The charges come after an investigation by the Michigan Attorney General’s office, which found that Gilleylen did not hold the necessary licensure or educational qualifications to practice as a registered nurse.

Nessel stressed the gravity of the situation in a news release on May 21. “Licenses to practice as a health care professional exist primarily to protect people from harm,” Nessel said. “Schemes to avoid licensing requirements are dangerous, and my department takes them very seriously.”

The investigation began following a complaint about Gilleylen’s employment at the three facilities. A search through Licensing and Regulatory Affairs records and a comprehensive background check confirmed that she had never been licensed to practice nursing in Michigan.

Gilleylen has been arraigned in Oakland County’s 52-2 District Court and released on a $75,000 personal recognizance bond. She is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause conference on June 4, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for June 11.
