LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s constant profanity is really getting out of hand. It began during her initial gubernatorial campaign in 2018, when she pledged to “fix the damn roads.”

According to the Detroit News, her campaign, not surprisingly, had some trepidation about using the phrase, especially since they hadn’t done any polling to see if the public was okay with the new slogan that the governor came up with. They had no idea if voters would be offended by her words especially since it was something that was going to be said around children.

Democrat voters don’t seem to mind the profanity.

But Whitmer’s Democratic supporters appeared to be okay with it, even shouting it back to her when she marched at parades. Later, when her campaign got around to polling the phrase, her campaign manager Eric Goldman said, “It was overwhelming that people felt it was a ‘reasonable’ saying and a reasonable slogan.”

From damn to hell…

Moving on from fixing the “damn” roads, Whitmer went into the “hell” portion of her governance after winning the election where she used the platform to tell Michiganders just about every day that she was “fighting like Hell” for their reproductive and abortion rights.

The swearing is non-stop.

Now we find ourselves in 2024 with a governor swearing about nearly everything ALL OF THE TIME. And I really do mean that it’s happening ALL OF THE TIME.

She swears in interviews, she swears on X, she swears on Instagram, she swears on TikTok, she swears in her State of the State speeches, and she swears in her official press releases like this recent one on May 28th where she says, “Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to drive economic activity, help Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school, and run errands safely.”

One of Whitmer’s most recent use of the word “damn” comes from her May 29th post on X shown below where she talks about rent being “too damn high”:

And just yesterday at the Mackinac Policy Conference, she gave a keynote speech where she mentioned the damn roads again. With that phrase being such a constant theme for her, you have to ask yourself – why aren’t those roads fixed by now?

Profanity even appeared in State of the State speech.

During her 2024 State of the State speech, the governor said, “Every Michigander deserves a classic Michigan story – you work hard, follow your dreams and build a great life. When you get knocked down, you get up again. You keep fighting. That’s what makes us special. Hell, just look at our Lions…” Also in the speech, she said that rent is “too damn high” and talked about “fixing the damn roads.”

Half of the governor’s social media posts on X in the past month have profanity.

I took a look at her X posts going back to April 29th and she posted the words “hell” or “damn” in 14 out of 29 of her comments. That’s 48.27%. Oops. Another one popped up yesterday after my investigation with the new profanity “kickass.” 15 out of 30 comments is 50%. Surely by next week, she’ll be shooting over 50%!

Even the political action committee that Whitmer launched in June of 2023 has profanity in it. It’s called the “Fight Like Hell” PAC.

Sh*t and the F-bomb appear…

However, it’s not just the damns and hells that Whitmer is interested in expressing in the public arena. During the NFL Draft in Detroit, she inserted the F-bomb into the conversation by saying the whole thing was a “BFD” as we reported back in April.

Also, in addition to all of her ongoing profanity, she also added “sh*t” into her repertoire when she accepted a Webby Award for public service and activism on May 13th. When accepting her award, she said, “Wear pink, get sh*t done.”

Pretty in pink.

The “pink” she was referring to is her signature fuchsia color that she wears as she goes about her governmental business. The fuchsia fashion is part of some sort of strange “Barbie” campaign she has continued to cling to. As shown in an Instagram post where a Barbie is dressed up to look like the governor, Whitmer says, “Come on Barbie, let’s go govern. This Barbie is the 49th Governor of the great state of Michigan and just like @barbie, fuchsia is my power color. I’m committed to fighting for a state where every Michigander, no matter their background can thrive.”

If you see the governor signing a bill, posting a TikTok rant or attending an event, you’ll most likely see her in fuchia. Between the whole Barbie comparison and all of the swearing, it’s hard for me to actually take her seriously. Does governing a state boil down to just marketing and catering to a select few demographics who condone such immature and amateurish conduct? As a prospective presidential candidate someday, her words and deeds hardly cultivate an aura of professionalism.

The governor’s book, coming out July 9th, is called “True Gretch: What I’ve Learned About Life, Leadership, and Everything in Between.” However, perhaps a more aptly titled account would be called: “True Grit and No Bullsh*t: Life, Leadership and All the F-ing Lessons in Between.”

I contacted Whitmer’s office to see why she swears so much and if it was going to stop anytime soon and they provided no damn comment.
