KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners announced funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) will be allocated to three local areas struck by the May 7 tornado and severe storms.

Commissioners approved $530,000 to be distributed among the City of Portage, Pavilion Charter Township, and Texas Township.

An additional $275,000 will be designated to the United Way for disaster recovery assistance. The county is also considering ways to extend relief to residents who may not be eligible to receive assistance from the United Way but were still impacted by the tornado.
