ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A 25-year-old illegal migrant from Mexico who eluded police for a week after allegedly sexually assaulting two girls when he broke into a home has been arrested.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office said they found the suspect in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is being held in Allen County, Indiana on an Immigration Detainer. That means local officials can hold the suspect to buy time for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to review the case and decide whether the suspect should be deported.

Law enforcement officials say police responded to a home invasion on March 20. They say he raped two girls under the age of 13, then sped away in a dark-colored passenger car.

Police say they identified the suspect using video surveillance footage. He has not been named, but lived in Sturgis.

“Thanks to the meticulous planning, execution, and collaboration between multiple law enforcement partners, a dangerous predator is in custody,” said St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman.
