The corner of Holbrook and Gallagher now features a sign above it which says “Palestine Avenue.”

The council’s resolution supporting the honorary naming states it is “intended as a gesture of solidarity, remembrance, and compassion for the lives lost in Gaza.”

The move is not surprising for the largely Arab-American community. In 2021, Hamtramck voters elected its first all Muslim city council.
