LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Hike, bike, paddle, snowshoe, ski, or otherwise travel to five checkpoints along local Michigan trails, and you could win a branded fanny pack and a sticker.

“The challenge is fun for everyone,” said Marcy Simpson, executive director of the Southwestern Michigan Tourist Council. “It’s something to do outdoors with your family and friends, or on your own in beautiful places.”

The 2024 Southwest Michigan Trails Challenge invites participants to download the official app from the App Store or Google Play, upload selfies at five different trailhead locations, and compete to be among the first 100 visitors to complete all five check-ins.

Seasonal sights include ice formations, wildflowers, fall foliage, and wildlife and bird sightings.

The challenge runs year-round or until all prizes are claimed. Participants from previous years can participate again.

Access to many of the two dozen trails included in the challenge is free, and many trails are wheelchair accessible. A list of trails included in the challenge, plus accessibility and travel options for each route, can be found on the Southwest Michigan Tourism website.

“Go once and you will be back again and again,” Simpson said.
