SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the process of closing the Soo Locks for the winter will be starting soon.
At 7:00 a.m. on December 17th, the MacArthur lock will close for the Navigation Season. It will remain closed until April 24th, 2024.

The closure allows crews to being their annual winter maintenance on the oldest and smallest lock.
The Poe Lock will remain open until January 15th, 2024. On that date, all shipping through the Soo Locks will stop for the winter.
