LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan drivers will get a break in this week’s budget. The state’s average gas price is down nine-cents a gallon to start the week at $3.11.

AAA Michigan says the price is down 29-cents in the last month and 16-cents lower than last year.

The state’s highest price is in Marquette at $3.22, while Traverse City has the lowest price at $3.04. A 15-gallon fill up costs roughly $46 in Michigan.

The drop in prices comes just two weeks before the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. That’s when 3.6 million Michiganders are projected to travel at least 50 miles from home.

It is the second-highest holiday travel forecast since the auto club started tracking that in 2000, behind 2019’s 3.7 million people. While 3.3 million are expected to drive, nearly 208,000 will fly.
