LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s Democrats, who largely walk lock-step with each other, strayed from party lines over the weekend after more antisemitic remarks from Rep. Rashida Tlaib. That included remarks from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Jewish woman.
Rep. Tlaib, who is the only Palestinian member of Congress and represents many Arabs in her district, called on President Joe Biden to declare a cease fire in the Israeli-Hamas war, saying on social media that “the majority of the American people are not with you on this one.”

In addition, Tlaib posted what some say is a Hamas rally cry to slaughter all Jews.
From the river to the sea is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction, or hate. My work and advocacy is always centered in justice and dignity for all people no matter faith or ethnicity.

As of Monday afternoon, the post received 37,000 comments and 12,000 retweets. One of those included Nessel, who outed the Congresswoman’s hateful comments.
.@RashidaTlaib, I have supported and defended you countless times, even when you have said the indefensible, because I believed you to be a good person whose heart was in the right place.
But this is so hurtful to so many. Please retract this cruel and hateful remark. https://t.co/HBCf8jRgYo

Tlaib made the comments on Friday just days after the U.S. House failed to approve a censure of the antisemitic Congresswoman. 23 Republicans, including Michigan Representatives Bill Huizinga, John Moolenaar, and Tim Walberg, sided with Democrats. Both Huizinga and Walberg cited “free speech” as the reason for voting not to censure Tlaib’s remarks.
To date, Tlaib has refused to answer questions regarding the murder of Israeli babies and the rapes and mutilations of citizens at the hands of Hamas.
