EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan State University is reportedly ready to name their next head coach.

Detroit Free Press reporter Chris Solari reports that Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith will be the next head coach at Michigan State, pulling him away from his alma mater Oregon State to become MSU’s 26th head coach.

Solari also reported that current interim MSU Head Coach Harlon Barnett and the current football coaching staff have been relieved of their duties.

Smith replaces former head coach Mel Tucker, who was fired Sept. 27, after his admission of sexual improprieties during an April 2022 phone call with Brenda Tracy, a prominent rape survivor and activist.
