ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – “Fall Back” is more than just a yearly chore. The return to Eastern Standard Time (EST) is also a time when less daylight means more risk for drivers and pedestrians alike.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Michigan Fitness Foundation want to remind motorists to watch out for people traveling on foot during their morning and evening commutes. That also includes people who are riding a bike or skateboard, and operating a wheelchair.

Research from the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute confirms that pedestrians are more at risk of serious injury from a motor vehicle crash in the weeks following a return to EST.
The most dangerous time is the first hour of darkness.
