WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – Former 2022 GOP Michigan gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley has been sentenced to 60 days in prison, one year of probation, and a $5,000 fine for his participation in the Jan. 6, 2021 events at the U.S. Capitol.
Kelley pleaded guilty in July. In June 2022 while in the thick of campaigning for the Michigan primary, the FBI showed up at his home and arrested him. At the time, Kelley called it a continued “witch hunt” and
a bunch of nonsense” when referring to the zealous prosecution of people at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

Court documents say Kelley encouraged rioters up the Capitol steps toward the building and removing police barricades. Videos and photos showed Kelley ripping the covering off the inaugural stage on the Capitol’s western steps.
Prosecutors said Kelley showed a lack of remorse. Kelley’s attorney requested only probation and referenced Kelley’s wife and six children in a court filing.
