DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – After feeling the pressure from United Auto Worker leadership, and the loss of another several thousand striking employees, General Motors and the auto union have announced a tentative agreement on Monday morning.
According to multiple sources, the final member of the Big Three Automakers, has followed in the footsteps of Ford and Stellantis who already have drafted tentative contract agreements which would end the strike which has lasted 46 days so far.

GM’s decision to provide a contract that has given the UAW something closer to what it wanted, comes after a strike expansion that was instigated over the weekend.
Union leadership called upon UAW members at GM’s plant in Spring Hill Tennessee, removing nearly 4,000 more workers from GM’s facilities already on strike. The plant provides engines for nine other plants for the automaker, and also assembles the electric Cadillac Lyriq, and several SUV models.
GM released a response to the strike expansion from over the weekend.
“We are disappointed by the UAW’s action in light of the progress we have made. We have continued to bargain in good faith with the UAW, and our goal remains to reach an agreement as quickly as possible,” the company said in a statement.
On Saturday the UAW announced a tentative agreement with Stellantis, after 44 days of striking the Big Three Automakers.
“Through the power of the Stand Up Strike we have won a record-breaking contract,” UAW President Shawn Fain said in an announcement, “We truly believe that we got every penny possible out of this company. We left nothing on the table.”

Fain also shared some other victories which had previously been considered “impossible.”
“At Stellantis in particular, we have not only secured a record contract, we have begun to turn the tide in the war on the American working class. Going into these negotiations, the company wanted to cut 5,000 jobs across Stellantis. Our Stand Up Strike changed that equation. Not only did we not lose those 5,000 jobs, we turned it all the way around. By the end of this agreement, Stellantis will be adding 5,000 jobs. We truly are saving the American dream.”
An auto union vote must still occur before contracts can be finalized, but Fain and Vice President Rich Boyer called upon many employees to return to work including at the Toledo Assembly Complex and Sterling Heights Assembly.
“We will be rolling out the tentative agreement to the UAW Stellantis National Council this Thursday, November 2nd,” Boyer said. “Following that vote, we will be hosting a special video address on Facebook on Thursday night to walk through the tentative agreement in detail with all of you.”
The UAW released the tentative Ford agreement which can be viewed in its entirety here. As part of the agreement, employees would experience a 25% wage increase, while wage creases from 2001-2022 only rose by 23%. Similarly, the starting wages will increase by roughly 68% and the top wages will increase by 33%.
Last week, there were two surprise strikes affecting Stellantis and GM, adding nearly 12,000 more workers to the total strike force.
The first two contracts would set the next expiration date for 2028, “We invite unions around the country to align your contract expirations with our own so that together we can begin to flex our collective muscles,” the UAW said on social media.
