DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Starting Monday, 550 Ford employees will not report to work after the automaker told them the UAW strike is impacting its “highly interconnected production system.”

The latest round of plants impacted by the strike include four in Michigan: 100 employees at Dearborn Stamping Plant, 65 employees at Dearborn Diversified Manufacturing Plant, 45 employees at Rawsonville Components Plant in Ypsilanti, and 29 employees at Sterling Axle Plant in Sterling Heights.

Layoffs also impact 306 employees at Sharonville Transmission Plant in Cincinnati, Ohio and 12 employees at Chicago Stamping Plant in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

The Stand Up Strike, which is entering its fifth week, started with walkouts at three plants in three states. It gradually expanded to other facilities and parts distribution factories as bargain table negotiations faltered. Although UAW President Shawn Fain has cited “progress” in recent weeks, the union ramped up the pressure with a surprise walkout of the Kentucky Truck plant last Wednesday.

The industry cited 34,000 UAW members on strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis. The big asks for the UAW include a 40% pay increase and reduced hours.
