ST. IGNACE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Mackinac Bridge Authority is sending out a final reminder that Canadian currency will no longer be accepted as toll when crossing the bridge as of October 1.
The decision was made in July due to relatively limited use by customers, combined with administrative costs associated with currency exchange.
The Mackinac Bridge is not an international bridge, so toll workers cannot offer an attractive exchange rate to customers.
Authorities said many Canadian customers currently use credit or debit cards to pay the toll since they receive a better exchange rate through their credit card company.
