JACKSON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Jackson Police Department is putting on a gun lock giveaway on Thursday, September 28.

The event is intended to help Michigan residents comply with a new law that will take effect next year. Gun owners will be required to store firearms in a locked container or unloaded and locked when there is a minor on the premises.

Police officers will distribute “LockForAll” gun locks at the JPD headquarters on E. Washington Avenue, starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. or when supplies run out. Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and go through a one-way circle drive behind the headquarters building.

Later this year, a similar event will be coming to Lansing.
