WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – It has been revealed in a Fox News Digital exclusive that Michigan Democratic senatorial candidate and U.S. Representative, Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that allows her to participate in closed-door discussions with state officials in matters relating to Megasite developments in Michigan.

Fox News Digital has obtained information that Slotkin had signed an NDA with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) in January of 2022. At the end of the same year, the agreement was changed to include two redacted projects and it also stated that it included “any potential Development Project identified as confidential.”

Because she can’t discuss “any” potential development projects, those projects could include two projects that have Chinese ties including Gotion, Inc., a subsidiary of the Hefei, China-based Gotion High-Tech and also Marshall’s Ford BlueOval Battery Park plant that has China ties because of its involvement and partnership with the foreign Chinese Battery Company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd (CATL).

NDAs are at the core of the Megasite developments being arranged throughout Michigan, giving government officials and local economic development organizations a year or more advantage to put their projects together without having to disclose any information to the residents in the communities that these projects are slated to be in.

Local economic development companies, who appear to be working in tandem with the state government, are the ones who are marketing the sites, coordinating the land and pushing these developments forward.

Fox News Digital learned that Gotion had entered into a confidentiality agreement with the MEDC in December of 2021, one month before Slotkin signed her NDA. Gotion also entered into a confidentially agreement with the government officials in Big Rapids in August of 2022.

Former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Cella, the co-founder of the Michigan-China Economic and Security Review Group, told Fox News Digital in an interview about the possibility of Slotkin signing NDA’s that could include CCP-tied development projects, “Whatever her justification, Elissa Slotkin’s decision to sign an NDA for this deal was reckless and shows a gross lack of prudential judgment.” He went on to say, “She is a member of Congress who would have been read in on the fact – elected officials have been warned by our intel agencies that such deals are considered subnational incursions, influence operations and present national security threats. So, knowing that, she and her staff should not have touched this deal.”

Cella and others, including Big Rapids residents, have been critical of the Gotion project since it was announced, especially after learning about the corporate bylaws of Gotion High-Tech that say the company is required to ”carry out Party activities in accordance with the Constitution of the Communist Party of China.” Even with that admission, a vote in the Michigan State Senate Appropriations Committee gave the final approval for giving $175 million in taxpayer funding to Gotion to build the facility.

U.S. Representative John Moolenaar, (R-MI) told Fox News Digital, “I was not asked to sign an NDA…I think it’s best to have transparency whenever we’re dealing with taxpayer dollars, especially when there are foreign interests involved, especially companies that are affiliated with China and the Chinese Communist Party…I’m a believer that these kinds of NDAs are problematic.”

A Slotkin campaign spokesperson had denied Slotkin’s participation with CCP-tied development projects in June of this year. The spokesperson said, “As we have repeatedly pointed out, the Congresswoman did not sign an NDA with or related to Gotion, or any Chinese company.” They reiterated the statement again recently saying, “Congresswoman Slotkin has never had any contact with Gotion, period – nor did she ever sign an NDA relating to that project.” They went on to say, “Any suggestion otherwise is patently false” and point out that the Rep. had signed an agreement with the State of Michigan about a new General Motors electric vehicle battery plant being built in her district.”

Slotkin is favored to be the Democratic nominee for the open Michigan Senate seat next year after the retirement of Democrat Senator Debbie Stabenow. An August Emerson College poll shows that Slotkin is ahead of the other six Democratic candidates with 34% support.
