LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes ripped across Mid- Michigan through the Detroit area on Thursday evening,  leaving thousands without power and scattered property damage.

Winds were clocked at 71 miles per hour and Capital Area International Airport in Lansing as the storm moved across the area. Heavy lighting, winds and a possible tornado caused building damage near Williamston, reportedly tossing cars traveling on I-96.

There are also reports of many trees and limbs down across the area making travel difficult. Consumers Energy reports over 195,000 without power, while DTE reports more than 80,000 customers with the lights out.
