EAGLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Eagle Township in Clinton County has sent out a notice that there are a sufficient number of verified signatures in order to proceed with a Special Recall Election against Patti Jo Schafer, Eagle Township Supervisor.

The petition to recall Schafer was initiated by Eagle Township resident, Troy Stroud, after Schaefer signed a non-disclosure agreement pertaining to the potential large-scale development of land in Eagle Township which the petition said “limited information available to Eagle Township residents affected by the potential development.”
This large scale development, called a Megasite by township residents, is formally referred to as the Michigan Manufacturing Innovation Campus (MMIC).
Supporters of the recall petition had gathered 144 more signatures than were needed to make sure that they had enough to move the petition forward and turned in 560 of them on July 10th. A sufficient number of them were verified by the county for the recall to move forward.
The Special Recall Election will be held in Eagle Township on November 7, 2023 at which time candidates of the Republican and Democratic parties and candidates without political party affiliation who seek to be Supervisor of the township will be voted on.
Pursuant to Michigan election law, Schafer’s name will automatically appear on the ballot as the Republican candidate for Eagle Township Supervisor as she was elected to that office at the November 2020 general election as a Republican.
The Clinton County Democratic Party has the opportunity to nominate a candidate for Eagle Township Supervisor and their documentation is due on Thursday, August 24th as is the documentation for any “no party” affiliation candidates.

The candidate receiving the highest number of votes for Eagle Township Supervisor will be elected to the remainder of the term.
Troy Stroud will be one of the candidates running for the position.
